Healthy habits that can benefit your lungs for life |
Never smoke
Smoking kills and is particularly detrimental to your lungs. If you are a current smoker, quitting will reduce your risk of developing heart problems, lung disease or blood supply blockages to your brain or legs. If you can’t stop smoking or you don’t see why you should, ask for help. There are aides available to help you quit smoking which your doctor can discuss with you.
Regular exercise
Can be very beneficial for your overall health and can help keep your lungs healthy. If you have a lung condition, guidance can be given by your healthcare provider about the type of exercise that may be suitable for you.
Breathe clean air
Smoggy, polluted air isn’t good for anyone, but those with compromised lung function particularly need to avoid environments that have pollutants such as dust, fumes and smoke in the air. Also try to avoid breathing second hand smoke.
